SUP Trends 2020 – What can we expect in the new stand up paddle season?

SUP Trends 2020 – Was erwartet uns in der neuen Stand Up Paddle Saison?

Stand Up Paddling is a relatively new sport, and due to a multitude of new developments, the industry is changing very rapidly from year to year. Beginners often lose track and do not know which SUP board brands exist, which ones stand for quality, or which boards are best suited for the respective area of use. At PADDLEexpo in Nuremberg, the largest trade fair for SUP, kayak, and canyoning, we were represented as exhibitors and also set out in search of the SUP trends for 2020!

SUP Trend: Stand Up Paddling in Winter

The Glory Boards team has been on the water all year round for many years. Stand Up Paddling is only practiced by many beginners during the hot summer months of July and August; however, with the right equipment and a little caution, there is nothing to stop you from paddling in the cold winter months as well. Many paddlers want to practice their hobby all year round in the future and be active even at temperatures below 10 degrees. The manufacturers of SUP apparel have taken up this customer request and are producing suitable SUP clothing for the cold months.

Nowadays, you can find drysuits from various manufacturers that make it possible for stand up paddlers to go paddling even in January without getting cold. When buying a SUP drysuit, pay attention to the fit, the quality of the zippers, and the material!

SUP Trend: Wingfoiling or Wingsurfing

A very major topic at the 2019 Paddle Expo, the trade fair for companies in the SUP, kayak, and canyoning sector, was the so-called surf wings, kite wings, wing surfers, or simply wings. A generic term for this trend has not yet clearly established itself, and manufacturers still name the wing differently.
What is wingsurfing or wingfoiling?
For those who cannot yet imagine what this is – a surf wing or wing looks like a cross between a small kite (or a large stunt kite) and a windsurf sail. You hold the (inflatable) surf wing with both hands slightly tilted above your body and surf over the water on a special board or SUP. Wingsurfing looks a bit strange at first glance, but it is great fun!
The invention of wingsurfing is not new, but wingsurfing is only experiencing a renaissance this year because it has received a lot of attention as a new water sport in combination with a foil (foils have only achieved a breakthrough in kitesurfing, windsurfing, and partly in stand up paddling in recent years).
Those who already have previous experience with so-called "foiling" can easily use the wing for wingfoiling.
The wing can also be used in combination with a stand up paddle board. This allows you, when it is windy, to do a so-called "downwinder" from one lakeshore to the other in the direction of the wind. You then paddle back against the wind or get picked up.
The subject of wingsurfing is so exciting as a SUP trend because this sport can develop in many different directions and no one can yet accurately estimate where the trend will lead!

SUP Trends 2020: New at Glory Boards for the next season!

We work all year round to optimize our products and design new products that do not yet exist on the market in this form. If you have been following us for a long time or own products from the Glory Boards range, then you know that we attach the greatest importance to high-quality workmanship, the integration of cool features, and a unique design.
For the 2020 stand up paddling season, the following new products and features await you:
  • A brand-new kayak seat! Using eyelets, you can mount the Glory Boards kayak seat on the SUP board in just a few simple steps and use it like a kayak. This allows you to use your SUP board in two ways – once for classic paddling and another time as an inflatable kayak!
Tip: The kayak seat is perfect if you want to use your SUP board for fishing!
The kayak option will be available for the Glory Boards "Fun" and "Trip".
  • Matching the kayak seat, we have designed our aluminum paddle so that it can be converted into a kayak paddle with an extra blade! If you want to use your SUP as a kayak, you need a double paddle to be able to paddle on both sides of the "SUP kayak".
  • The conversion kit for the kayak will also be available separately, so that you can retrofit any SUP board!
  • Many stand up paddlers love long SUP tours! With the Glory Boards "Global", a 14'0" long touring SUP board is coming onto the market in 2020, which has been specifically designed for multi-day tours and tours with two people. It combines the fantastic straight-line tracking of our race board and the stability of the touring board!
  • Windsurfers and all-rounders take note! In 2020, faces will beam when the Glory Boards "Cross" 11'0" becomes available. This kayak touring board is available both with and without a windsurf option.
Windsurf boards have one decisive disadvantage: they are bulky and difficult to transport. With the Glory Boards "Cross", you can go stand up paddling on windless days, and on days with wind, you inflate the Cross, supplement it with a sail, and can use every breeze on the lake without having to additionally take along a heavy windsurf board.
  • Last but not least, we have a few more special products in development that we will present to you in the coming weeks and months. Let yourself be surprised by the latest Glory Boards SUP trends and follow us on Facebook or Instagram so that you don't miss any more news!
