Our favorite summer activity? Paddling all day long. Is it the same for you? We prefer to start early in the morning, pack a snack in our Drybag, take the camera, and discover the most beautiful places hidden from pedestrians or drivers. With a SUP board, you have the opportunity to stop in small bays that are otherwise inaccessible and get a completely different perspective of the landscape.

We usually paddle for one to two hours, take a break in a nice spot, and then paddle for another one to two hours. At sunset, we look for a beautiful place to watch the sun disappear behind the mountains or the lake.

For these long tours, we use Touring SUP Boards, as these boards offer decisive advantages for long distances.

The advantages of Touring SUP Boards for long distances

Touring SUP Boards are longer and slightly narrower than all-round boards. Most SUP touring boards are available in sizes ranging from 12' to 12'6". This length keeps the Touring SUP very stable in the water and allows you to perform more paddle strokes per side. This is a big advantage for speed, as you don't have to change the paddle side as often.
SUP Touring Boards have a pointed nose that cuts through the water excellently.
Due to the length of the SUP board and the various attachment options, you can transport a lot of luggage that you need for long distances. Sometimes we even take a small tent and sleeping bags for overnight tours. You can attach one or more dry bags to the luggage net or to the carrying handle in the middle, for example.
The Touring SUP Board is significantly more stable, comfortable, and better suited for luggage transport compared to a Race SUP.
Even as a beginner, you don't have to be afraid of Touring SUP Boards. The sporty Touring SUP Boards are the right choice for ambitious beginners who primarily want to paddle in flat water and plan long-distance tours in the future.

The disadvantages of Touring SUP Boards

Touring SUP Boards truly excel on long distances. Small sacrifices have to be made in terms of maneuverability. All-round SUP Boards and Wave SUPs are significantly more agile, but for this reason, they allow fewer paddle strokes per side before initiating a turn.
Touring SUP Boards are somewhat more uncomfortable to handle for children and small, light people due to their length, for example when carrying or turning on the water. Also, when transporting on the car roof, some very small cars are simply too short for touring SUP boards.

Our conclusion on Touring SUP Boards: The Touring SUP Board is our first choice for long distances, for example on lakes or slow-flowing waters. It is stable, track-stable, and ideal for transporting dry bags and luggage. We are already looking forward to many more tours and paddling trips over long distances.
